Swedish Committee for Afghanistan

Since the beginning of the year, the escalating fighting in Afghanistan has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes – and more are fleeing every day. This August we learned that the Taliban have taken power in the country and there is great uncertainty about the future. Our support organisation for September is the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SAC). They mainly work with the most vulnerable members of society: women, children, people with disabilities and internally displaced persons. Despite the situation in Afghanistan, SAC is continuing to focus its efforts on local development of rural areas, schools and health care with unchanged strength. But they need help and we feel that SAC is the obvious choice for this month’s support organisation so that they can continue their important work.

Talita

In August we are supporting Talita. Talita is a non-profit organisation that offers women a way out of prostitution, pornography and human trafficking for sexual purposes and into a new life. Through its rehabilitation programme Talita has been helping women all around the world for over 20 years. Almost all women who have completed Talita’s programme leave prostitution for good. We are pleased that our contribution will go to support their important work.

Hand in Hand

For almost thirty years, Hand in Hand International has used training, supportive networks and access to micro-loans to help people exploit their potential and develop into small-scale and successful entrepreneurs. They educate and train primarily women and young people in self-help groups with a focus on entrepreneurship. This results in stronger companies and start-ups, which in turn leads to more jobs. Eradicating global poverty is number 1 in the UN’s list of global sustainability goals, and it is also the vision of Hand in Hand. We are proud to support them in their work towards a world without poverty.

UNHCR fights for the rights of refugees, provides life-saving emergency relief and creates solutions for a secure future.

SOS Children’s Villages

Today more than 220 million children worldwide live in extremely vulnerable circumstances because they lack, or risk losing, the basic care of a parent. The coronavirus risks leading to poverty around the world becoming even more widespread. Children who are already living in vulnerable circumstances will be the hardest hit. In April we chose to support SOS Children’s Villages. Their work goes beyond creating basic conditions for each child. It also includes standing up for children and their rights. They need us now more than ever. Together we can ensure that no child grows up alone.
